Dr. Nagendra Mishra

M.S., DNB (Urology)

Senior Consultant Urologist

Specialist in Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS)

He is a pioneer in diagnosing, managing and treating IC/BPS. When he was being trained in Urology in Jaslok Hospital Mumbai in 1990-91 the common thinking was that IC/BPS does not exist in India. It is a disease of western world.

Started taking interest in Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome from 1993 when he realised that the patient which he was treating as Tuberculosis was actually having some other disease. On further researching he found that the patient was suffering from  IC/BPS. This kindled his interest in IC/BPS and a new journey began for IC/BPS in India.Dr. Mishra took leadership and devoted his life to help IC/BPS patients. He established the one and only Interstitial cystitis bladder pain center in India at Ahmedabad.

He is pioneer in spreading the message that IC/BPS  does exist in India and is not uncommon.  He contacted Interstitial Cystitis Association(USA) and expressed interest in the disease. He was invited to attend IC/BPS meeting in Washington DC in 1997 as an international speaker. This meeting was hosted by ICA and NIH(National Institute of Health)USA.  He presented papers in local, national and international meetings, organised symposium on IC/BPS at many places and has many international publications to his credit. He has written a book on IC/BPS and also written a chapter on IC/BPS in a urogynaecology book. His name is synonyms with IC/BPS in INDIA. He was also invited to USA, Europe and Japan multiple times as international speaker where he put forth his view, concept and understanding of IC/BPS in front of whole world.

Visiting Consultant

Sola Raod, S.G.Highway, Ahmedabad

Interstitial cystitis center in Ahmedabad is tertiary referral center for IC/BPS patients and has treated maximum number of patients in India. Patients from all over India are referred for diagnosis and treatment. We have record of our patients from 2000.

We treat patients with empathy. We believe in multimodal therapy and believe in treating patients at our center without referring them to other specialist. We believe that bladder imflammation is the primary abnormality and if you treat bladder all other secondary conditions  will also improve. Because the etiopathology is not known we believe in multimodal therapy and have achieved best results in the world with our  treatment protocol.

We offer  reconstructive surgical therapy to our patients who do not improve after cystoscopy therapeutic hydrodistension and  adequate oral and intravesical agents. Botox is not a preferred modality of treatment as the results are not good.
